Uninstalling Ie

I have recently installed firefox inplace of ie and was wondering how i made that my default program rather than ie. when i use programs such as msn messenger if i open my hotmail inbox it automatically opens with ie and i was wondering if i uninstalled ie would this fix the problem, or is there any other procedures i would need to take. I was also wondering if it was safe to uninstall ie.

Uninstalll IE, that's a windows component, unless you have installed an upgrade to it, you can't uninstall it.

as much as i hate IE i would keep it around just in case you ever need it, most things open up fine as long as Firefox is set as the default browser..except when i open my Hotmail from msn messenger it always uses IE, but there is the occasional site that requires IE, and you might need it sometime, i know my mom was doing our taxes i think using Firefox and it came up and said "you need Internet Explorer" or something along those lines..so that would suck...IE isnt that big, and if you never use it its not a security problem, so i would just leave it alone.

To each his own I guess.
I still uninstalled IE but if I ever need it I can always restore it by downloading it again or just simply by recovering it using SM

The main problem with Microsoft software is the insecurity. The IE contains a lot of security holes which if discovered will allow hundreds of hackers, viruses, worms and trojans to attack you. I hate Microsoft for this, sometimes I feel that they do this on purpose, I mean releasing software with security problems, why? If you have a security problem with your windows, and you have an original software, you will easily download the patch and install it, but if your software is not legal, I think you will suffer, and that's what they want illegal software users to feel :D

You know half of these exploits are created by the creators of AV programs, just think if everyone stopped writing viruses then there would be no more AV updates which means no more AV programs and no more money so they would eventually go out of business.
They must make some of those viruses!

Im useing it right now too when the system adminstrator finds out I can download shit from the inernet hes going to be so pissed HA HA HA HA!
If a simple browser switch is enough to get proper access to the net, yer system admin isnt worth crap.

The main problem is people's inability/refusal to use anything robust -- MS *has* to make things pretty and user friendly. Just like Nero/Easy-CD-Creator -- almost no control over the burning process except its good cuz its EASY.

Oh yes of course .... including the people who make free antivirus....

They must make some of those viruses!
Thats a big drop from "half"

You know, we have a nice quote in the Arab world saying, "Disasters of some people can be simply gold to other people." It's the same with Viruses, it's shit and disaster to computer users but it's a gold mine to AV companies, so simply if the disasters stop to occur, the gold mine is closed, and they don't want it to be even if they themselves created the disaster, that's their business model, which I consider a very dirty business model in the IT field.

Absolutely but in the light of multiple free antivirus solutions, it's hard to accept that "half the virii" out there are "planted" as that would be extra work for nothing :)

I only see 1 advantage to keeping IE on a computer and thats to test web pages. I'm making website and they work fine on IE but as soon as I open the html file on Firefox or Opera is turns into a pile of... sorry about that. I guess thats a bit of a cop out on my behalf but it works for a lot of people.

Hellbreather, How do you download microsoft's updates?
You can wait untill Hellbreather gets back to you or take this advice: Click Start Button > Click All Programs > Click Windows Update. That should search and display any available updates that you can download and install.
I'm suprised why you computer doesn't automatically notify you new Windows Updates. Which Windows OS do you have?

Hi I have been away or I wouldda got back sooner. I also can't understand why it doesn't automatically tell you if updates are avaiable to download. But yeah follow OS Dragons instructions and you'll be fine

FF isn't an exception, it's just less targeted. :)
