unix/linux

try PCLinux OS --> www.pclinuxos.com/
or BLAG LINUX --> www.blagblagblag.org/

but try blag first, i've been testing it out and it rocks.

blag - blag linux and gnu

blag is an operating system. blag has a suite of graphics, internet, audio, video, office, and peer to peer file sharing applications. you can replace a windoz installation with blag. if you would like to install and run blag, download and burn it to cd.

That puts me off trying it straight away.

I mainly use the redhat based distros, but I dabbled with debian as well. I just suggest downloading all the live DVDs and trying out each one to see what you like. Ubuntu, however is easy is definitely not the best distro out there for everyone. So, you gotta try it out for yourself.

Gentoo, is more advanced, but it is kind of a grow your own homebrew of linux in a way with a very detailed package manager, but then again you are building it yourself. So, it could become a huge head ache later one for you.

just finished installing blag on a 300GB HD at home.Blazing fast performance, no need to update anything at the moment cos everything is there. you name it w32 codecs,wma,mp3 , dvd playback,music converter...men now am a spoiled brat!!!

the only thing now i need to install is OPERA, VMWARE,WEBMIN,CEDEGA,CROSSOVER and NEROLINUX. <--don't like k3b & Gnomebaker..
the ones i mention for me is a must on my install list

duh uh

instead of burning iso's you can use a Virtual Machine to run the OS in to experiment with it before burring CD to install. you can also install the OS on a USB drive rather than using a CD. this is nice because it is easier to change content.
