unplugging the harddisk instantaneously while downloading??

if I am downloading files to an external harddisk connected to a USB, i accidentally make loose the USB wire (hearing windows sound about connection/disconnection), then I tighten the usb quick back to the port.
I was surprised, the downloading was not affected, why? Will there be
any lossy of the files compared to the original?
(I can't download the files again, so i ask for possibility. I use JDownloader)
 
The file don't actually get saved until the file has been fully downloaded. It's actually downloaded to a temp file first and then saved to its destination when completed.
