unstable Ping

Hi guys I have a problem that just started and I was wondering if someone can help me out. I have a decent internet connection for my area, when I use my modem to check my sync speed it is all good however using my pain PC my ping is really unstable when pinging my ISP however if I use my laptop to perform the same action the ping is very stable. I had though perhaps have a virus but after a virus scan I my pc is clean. I have shut off all applications that I know use the internet like Steam however my ping remains unstable. I like to play games online so having this issue is wreaking havoc for me. Anyone have any ideas?
 
NIC could be starting to flake out.

Have you installed the latest driver for it?
 
Any chance on wiring?

How far are you away from the access point? What kind of signal strength do you get? What speed are you syncing at over wifi?
 
in another room so no chance of wiring. My signal strength is excellent. I have had no problem at all untill yesterday. So whatever changed it is recent.
 
What specific router and NIC is it?

Any potentially new sources of interference like a baby monitor or wireless video camera by you or a neighbor? There's a lot of 2.4 GHz consumer products that will completely kill a wifi signal that's on the ISM band (2.4 GHz). You could alternatively try another wifi channel on the other side of the range.

Do you have a lot of wifi SSIDs around you from other people?
