Untested Graphics Card

Hello. For the amazing sum of $1.00, I picked up an ATI Radeon X300 256mb pci card. I know that this card is not a performer or really anything special. He had other custom pc's there, which I think that this was a pull from a dead pc.

I'm building a new gaming rig that will have an ATI Radeon 3850 (my choice at the moment:)). I was thinking of installing this card temporarily, for probably a couple of months, to use in the mean time over the integrated 6100 in the board for my games. All my present games run on an X200 128-256 mb integrated card, so I figured that they would do better with this. My question is, is there any danger to install this card? Could it ruin my new board? I don't actually know if it's any good. Like I say, I know that this isn't at all much of a card, but I'm sure it's better than the integrated. What do you guys think of the risk, if any? Thanks.

This would be running Vista Home Premium. Thanks.

Thanks! I just read that the 6100 is Nvidia's X200 equivalent. The 6100 has something like two pipelines, while the X300 has, I think, four. The speed of the X300 core was 325mhz, while the 6100 had 400 or so. The 6100, in this board, can have up to 128, while this VisionTek can have up to 256 (128 dedicated, I guess). So, I don't really know what would be better, I guess the ATI, but the Nvidia has a faster core. I guess I'll find out! Thanks for the help guys!

Check the board carefully and switch off if you don't get a display straight away. I smoked a motherboard with a damaged video card before today. It survived, but it's never nice seeing smoke coming out of the box...
