Update me :)

Hey guys, its been awhile since Ive been in the computer craze :D. Here i am back again wanting to build a new PC (yeepee!). Im most likely going to wait until Christmas to build a new badboy (hopefully) and just need a few updates on what to get :). So im thinking about upgrading to the i5, so my question is. Is it really worth upgrading to the i5? Are there anything new coming around the corner that i should definitely wait on for such as AMD or different CPU's etc?

I will definitely appreciate the update guys!

i5 has really good bang for the buck. Some might argue AMD is a little better money wise but for performance its really hard to beat the i5. You are not going to see a huge improvement now but down the road the extra power will definitely come in handy. I would take a look at MSIs new mobo called the Big Bang. It has a Lucid 200 Hydra chip on it allowing for mix and matching of Nvidia and Ati cards together.

You sexy gamer.

Yer anyway. Go with either..

Intel i5 / i7

OR

AMD Phenom ll Deneb Black Edition @ 3.0GHz AM2+ socket

But tbh the motherboards are quite poo at the moment apart from say an ASUS rampage? (Talking about the AMD btw)

If your getting the i5 or i7 im not sure what mobo you could get as im only just looking myself ;)

 Why the AM2+ 940 when the 955 is better and it's AM3?

Anyway, I'd totally skip the I5 since you won't see that much improvement over a Q6600. And since you are a ''hardcore'' gamer, skip any socket 1156 core I7 so you'll be needing an I7 with the 1366 socket. Socket 1156 cpu's only support 8x/8x crossfire/SLI, and they only support dual channel memory. With 1366, you will get full 16x/16x and triple channel which are both better for gaming.
In short, you'll be needing the I7 920, and any motherboard that has atleast two 16x PCIe slots. Then go for the new 5850 graphics card, or if you have a higher budget the 5870 but personally I'd rather have two 5850's in crossfire than a single 5870.
So what is your budget?

Yeah i am known to be a quite sexy gamer :D

haha umm, im mostly going for an intel chipset just because you get more of an option of what to choose overall. But the new MSI big bang has grabbed my attention, sounds like something i should wait on for. Thankyou guys for the information, if any other updates please let me know : )
