Updated build, constantly restarts now

So, I just got done putting in some new things on my computer. It worked perfectly for about 30 minutes then it restarted and kept doing that continuously. It does not display anything and it restarts so quickly I'm assuming its not even posting.

What I added were 5 new fans, a fan controller, a cathode light, and a new mouse. I'm not positive if this is what caused it or not, but before the restarts started I was installing the software for the mouse..

Thing is, I disconnected the HDD and it still does it and I disconnected the fan controller and all the new fans. What could be causing this?

Edit: Disconnected mouse and cathode, still no luck. Hope this isn't something serious ><

Would it be possible for the motherboard to short circuit itself? I hadn't thought of it before, but I do have wires running under the motherboard tray and there is a bit of a bulge of them in one area, so when I put the panel back on it could be causing the motherboard to make contact with the motherboard. I tried taking the back panel off to relieve any pressure, but it did nothing..

Edit: I just ran it without a CMOS battery and it stopped restarting, but there was no display and it ignored any attempts to shut it down until I hit the off switch on the PSU. Does that mean anything?

Please help I'm really desperate here.

Bit of a side note, I tried using the Vista disc to get somewhere, but the computer restarts so fast that I don't think it gets a chance to read it properly, so it does nothing. Plus I have to be really fast and have good timing to even get the disc in and out.. I'm starting to think my processor is dead..

i would take off your heatsink and clean it off then reapply the thermal compound and make sure you put it on right. sounds like your cpu might be overheating so it keeps restarting. happened to me when i didnt have mine on right the first time i put mine together with the stock cooler.

I doubt it was overheating, it stay'd between 36 C and 48 C all the time and I actually did reapply thermal paste just because I had the computer all disassembled, figured why not.. Plus I had it turned off for an hour in case it was overheating..same result though.

Thanks for commenting, was getting worried no one would answer. :)

Please I still need help with this, anyone think it is a hardware failure?..

did you try going back to stock clocks? maybe you cpu isnt stable at 3.6

Restarts too fast to access anything, I have no display and it runs for 2 maybe 3 seconds before it restarts again.

Also is this normal? When I removed the heatsink earlier, the thermal paste was mostly on the edges and not in the middle, yet I remember when I put thermal paste down I had put down a drop in the middle and then put the heatsink on (did not spread it out before hand)...Not sure if that could cause a false positive of running at good temps, but actually be burning up.

Can anyone suggest any good troubleshooting techniques or things to try?

Basic troubleshooting. Strip it down and get started.

That's what I would do...strip it all back down and start over.

Putting a small spot of TIM in the middle of the CPU then attaching the cooler is the correct thing to do, (I think so anyway) Many people have different way of doing it and many ways work.

When you strip it all down and re set the processor, reapply TIM and attach the cooler, make sure you are not making the cooler too tight. It needs to be snug...not wrench slipping, screw stripping tight.

I am thinking the processor also...a friend's computer had the exact same problem once. His water pump stoped and the processor was over heating in just a few seconds.

I am assuming you have checked all cables?

When you say TIM I'm assuming your talking about thermal paste right? And yes I've unplugged and replugged in all the cables one by one. And the with the heatsink I have I don't think its possible to have it too tight, its held down with a bolt thru kit that uses spring pressure screws. Maybe you can overtighten, don't think I did though.

First thing I do when I get home I'll take everything out of the case and try running it like that in case the motherboard is short circuiting somewhere..

Thanks again for all the reply's please keep them comming!

So, I took out the graphics card and it is running fine, but I have no idea if it's actually running or whats its saying since my motherboard has no onboard video.. Would a dead graphics card cause something like this?

Edit: I want to try putting my 4870 in my old computer, but it uses a 430W PSU. Its a custom build but it wasn't made by me. The psu is a thermaltake and it powers a P4 3ghz and normally a 6200 geforce I believe possibly a 6400 I can't remember.. Would it hurt to try?

Not the video card or the PSU..
Not the hard drive either..

...God I hate myself, it should've been the first thing to try. My ram stick is dead. So, problem solved. Thanks for all the help guys :)
