Updating BIOS

How big of a chance is there to mess things up seriously when updating the BIOS for your motherboard?

I am a student with some on-line classes and need my computer daily...

Thanks,

Matt.

For starters, you should only update the BIOS for its causing you problems, and things arent working right. Secondly, go on the motherboards manufacturers website, and find the page about your board. In the download section it should list the bios revisions. There are easier ways, but its manufacturer dependant. For instance, with MSI the liveupodate program they have will tell you when theres a new bios out, and then will automatically update it for you.

If for some reason the computer crashed or what eva while installing the BIOS your computer probably wouldnt work. The only way do recover it is to replace the BIOS chip with a working 1 or get a 32pin smt chip programmer and reflash it.
