Updating Bios

it also depends on your OS. if you dont have service pack 2 you will need to slip stream it or get windows 2000 sp4 or wait for vista :)

The full 266mb SP2 redistributable update can be downloaded and saved to a folder at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-SP2-RTM.shtml

If that is an ide drive and the drive's jumper is set wrong that can easily cause problems. If you set it as slave to the primary on the middle connector try the cable select position. If you slaved the drive correctly you may have created too small of a primary partition on it. What did you use for that?

Are you running this as a replacement drive as master(if an ide type drive)? With the XP installer having an install disk onhand you can use that to delete current partition created if found too small. Once you press the enter to get past the "R" option screen for the recovery console or press now to install Windows you press "L" on the next screen after highlighting the partition made. On the following screen you then press "D" and answer yes at the confirmation prompt to delete the 120gb if this is what happened. Then you can proceed to go back in and create a single primary using the total drive space available. Note the total is displayed on the first install screen.
