Compequip

OK guys so I upgraded into a new i5 3570K system with all the goodies, but now my wife wants her own computer. I was going to put the old cpu out to pasteur, but I think it's still viable. Here are the specs.

Antec 900
Asus P5Q deluxe Mobo
E8500 CPU
Asus 4870 GPU
OCZ 700 PSU
4 GB 1066 DDR2
WD 640 HD
Vista 64 O.S.

It's getting a little slow and I've never reloaded the O.S. since new in 08. I was thinking of getting an SSD for boot. Then using this HD as storage or buy a new hd. Also loading windows 7. She only uses it for internet searches and such, but would at least like to upgrade to windows 7 and keeping all 5 cpu/laptops I have on the same OS. What do you guys think? Newegg has Win7 for $75 and SSD for $75 and keep it another 2 years?

Sounds viable. You don't need a lot of grunt to browse the web. That machine is more than enough to handle that.

SSD will reduce boot time, however once the browser is open won't make any difference, so that is optional.

Yeah, I understand as of right now it takes no kidding a solid 5 minutes to load up before I can start using the comp. So imagine you have some kind of windows error or ie error. I hit restart and have to wait at least 5 minutes, it's kinda annoying. Also I have a comp. that take 20 secs. to use can you image my wife next to me saying what the heck, I'll take your comp. you wait and use this comp. I'd be sooooo  haha

Adding a $100 SSD and putting on a fresh install of Windows will make a world of difference when it comes to speed when booting, launching applications, and browsing through the OS. When browsing, as mentioned earlier, there's really no difference. Other than that, everything else is totally sufficient for surfing the web, it'd be a waste to upgrade anything else.

Yeah I ordered win 7 and Crucial M4 64gb ssd. It should be here tomorrow. Cost me 160.00 and should keep this going another 2 years.....
