Upgrade advise needed?

Hi all, Its been a few years since I built my last PC (X58 system). Looking to upgrade a few parts. I mainly game ( game tester ). The budget for this is around 600 dollars. I will be using some of my old PC parts. I have had some friends give some advise on some parts, but still ask around for advise.

The parts I will be using from the old PC are my 970 gtx, 500gb HD, case (full tower), power supply (650w) and the optical drives.

I'm sticking with Intel, with that said I am upgrading my motherboard, memory and CPU.

This is what I have so far and am looking at all options.

I7 4790k

ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97

G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-8GTX

OR

MSI Z97-Gaming 5

Don't have any memory selected for the MSI MB.
 
What your looking to upgrade is good, I have the same parts no issues at all other than I just have a different graphics card (980)

As for the cpu cooler do you want to do water cooling if yes try taking a look at corsair h100i . great product right there.
