Im a student so that mean i got a low budget.I got an old work laptop off my folks...i mean old >_>
Its a NEC Versa C160...i have upgraded a couple of things.
1) RAM - I added another 512Mb
2) HDD - I added 80Gb HDD

anyway here are the current specs:

  • Athlon XP-M 2200+ TbredB (runs at 1.6ghz 133FSB)
  • 256Kb L2 Cache
  • 736Mb DDR RAM
  • 80Gb HD SATA 5400RPM
  • MoBo NEC CI VC1
  • Chipset Northbridge: SiS 740 / Southbridge: SiS 962L

I know the MoBo and the Chipset leave alt to be desired...and so does the rest probably.but can you tell me what i can upgrade and the cost of it and then relative performance gain
thanks

You upgraded about all that's possible to upgrade. It may be possible to upgrade that processor, but it's hard to say. Honestly though, if you put a nice clean copy of XP on that machine, it probably wouldn't be too bad for normal internet browsing and such.

Unless you get a whole new mobo, then no.

A new laptop would be the best route if you want something better.
