i got a hp pavilion zd8000 its about 3 years old now and im debating whether or not to upgrade or buy a new one...it has a p4 (which gets crazy hot btw lol!) at 3.2 ghz, 512 mb of ram with a 128 nvidia graphics card...is it worth me upgrade the ram to at least 2 gigs, cause it runs quite slow now willl it make a big difference? or how much u think i can sell it for so i can buy a new one....also the battery does not charge completely....stops at like 50 percent and only lasts for like 20 minutes......confused....please help lol

if your happy with it now and just want a little more speed than just up the ram, but if you convert movies , photoshop ect or like to multi-task than id say upgrade to a decent core2duo system.

i use it mostly for watching videos and playing music with the odd video game but its gotten very bad lately and even when im listening to music it lags very much...can vista be part of the problem...i recently switched over from xp...can this also be a problem? and how much do you think a battery will cost and how long do you think it will run for with the 17 inch monitor?

If you switch to Vista, it definately be a problem.
To run it smoothly. Vista Basic - 1GB RAM. Premium - 2GB.
And your motherboard only support upto 1GB.

I will suggest you switch back to XP or get a new PC.
I includes the link for battery. It is $90. I don't know how long it last, I used to take out the battery when I pluged the Laptop to them main.

I would agree that Vista is definitely the problem. If you have an HP Pavilion zd8000, I am under the impression that it can handle 2GB of RAM. Check with the HP website.

I concur the upgrade the RAM to 2GB, switch back to XP (more stable system) and get a new battery if that only seems to hold half a charge.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive? I saw that you said that it had a 120GB HDD, but if it is 99% full (exaggeration) then that could also be an issue to your lag on the vids.

Good luck

If you are looking for drivers, I've had some luck finding them on www.driveragent.com, it should be a start.

Vista.... I have seen vista and it works well, but you have to have just about every living high-end system or major upgrade to make it work smoothly.

Vista now uses intelligent memory management which they call ReadyBoost and it allows the space in an external devices such as a thumbdrive (usb) or an SD card.

Good luck.

hmm next problem...it wont pick up my wireless network...everything is hooked up right nothing has changed since i put xp onto the laptop and now it wont pick up my network and i dont know why...i installed the newest drivers for the network card too....im confusedd:S

Can you see the wireless network?

Login to your router via a wire and ensure all settings are correct. If they are, then disable all security and reboot the router, then see if you can see it from the laptop. Then take one step at a time when you secure the router and ensure you can connect each step of the way.

Good luck

so its not the router because i can pick up the internet connection and browse on my psp...i cant seem to find the problem with tthe laptoop and why it cant detect any networks :S any input?

k heres a bit of an update...the drivers are correct for it...the light is on when i boot up the computer than when i log in it turns off. When i open the hp wireless assistant i can push the button to turn off (it shows this in the assistant) or if i push it again it shows disabled (im guessing the switch it working and can be enabled but something is automatically making it disabled for some reason) anybody have an experience with this or have any input?

Correct me if I am wrong but you are using HP Wireless Assistant to access your wireless connection... right? If you are, try using the Windows one instead of the Hp one. It might work.

alrite guys problem got solved somehow ahha i figured i just reinstall windows to see if it would fix the problem and it did! so now im just going to upgrade my ram and keep this baby...someone said it can only support upto 1 gig? is this true and how do you know?
