Upgrade or new???

Hi, i have an old Dell C400 that I keep at university solely for word processing and web browsing. Problem is it is that it is very slow - will not respond for 30s when autosaving a document and crashing with only a few tabs open in a browser.
It currently has 256MB of ram hardwired to the motherboard and one slot available for a 512MB upgrade. The question is, will a 512MB upgrade (US$150 for 512MB!!!!) be enough for me to plod along with this computer?..... I am really attached to this laptop, it is the smallest yet most solid feeling and unbreakable laptop I have ever had.

Only one way to find out. lol

Netbooks are becoming very inexpensive, but if it's worth it to you
then take the chance and flip for the RAM.
