Upgrade Question

Alright, along with building a new computer, I'm thinking about upgrading a few of the parts of my old PC.

It is a four year old Dell. Now, I know from opening "System" in Control Panel that is has a 1.8 Ghz P4 with 1 GB RAM.

Thing is, how do I check the other components to know what I can replace and what I can replace it with?? Do I need to just open the box to see what kind of mobo is in there and how many extra bays I have an such, or can I use device manager??

Thanks

YOu can do both if you know what you are looking at. Also SI-soft sandra is a good program which analyses your computer and gives you information about it.

If you're looking at a processor upgrade that may be a S423 P4 so you may have problems finding a faster one (I think you can hit 2GHz but it will be hard to find). As for hard drives or cd drives any ata drive will be ok to use (provided you have space for it)
