Upgrade RAM to 1Gb

My details: P4 @ 3.0GHz / 512Mb

Please help with upgrading the RAM in my PC!

I have an Elitegroup 661FX-M motherboard. This motherboard has two
slots to accommodate RAM modules, only one is currently used.

The RAM installed in one slot is an Elixir 512Mb / 400MHz /2.6V / PC3200 / DDR400.

Can I add an extra 512Mb RAM module into the spare slot to double up my RAM?

Does the extra 512Mb RAM module have to be exactly the same RAM module (brand, model and serial number) for it to work or can I use other brands?

If I do this (use both slots). Is this 'Dual Channelling'?
 
Oh yeah! One more thing.

The motherboard instruction booklet says that the RAM has to be 2.5v, the RAM currently in there is 2.6v.

Is that a problem? Will it become a problem if I add an additional RAM stick that is 2.6v to the other slot?

Check the bank-limitation on the board (aka slot-limitation)

No it doesnt. The board will use the lowest common specifications :)

On AMD boards, ive not encountered a Dual Channel capable board with only 2 slots. If yours does support dual channel and has only two slots then that would be dual channeling. Otherwise, your mobo doesnt support dual channnelling

Wow... has it been that long since this post?!!

Can't believe it's been so long since the post about my mobo, 2004!! Time really flys.

Well now that I realise it is so long ago it is more of a reason to upgrade. This is the reason I'm re-visiting this post. I want to see if anyone here knows what I can upgrade my mobo to? Or if it is not worth it?!

I want to get something much newer but it has to be able to accept everything as it is at the moment... basically a straight forward change over from the current Elitegroup to a newer mobo.

BTW, I ended up upgrading the RAM to 1Gb (thanks for the assistance Praetor, I wouldn't have gone ahead if it wasn't for your advice!).
