Howdy,
first off, I would like to thank anyone and everyone beforehand for aiding me.

I am on a limited cash flow. so using most of my existing parts,(300-700USD)
MoBo: Fic VI13
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2399 Mhz(2.4chip)
VC: BFG GeForce FX 5700LE, 256mb
HD: 40gig Maxtor(freebie ^_^)
RAM: 184pin ddr-dimm, 1gig ddr333, 2700. two sticks of 512.

this is my first "Home Made" computer, truthfully I had no clue what I was doing when I first built it(whats the fun in knowing, no?) but its ran so far without a problem. just how it is becomming a little dated.

I am going to try and change out the MoBo for a newer one. that can still use all of my parts, ie, same chip, ram. etc if I can. if not. much as I can.
also.. I have OEM of XP home. will I have to reinstall xp if I change out the MoBo? and if so.. will my OEM copy still work for it. or do I need to buy another copy(*hopes not*)

I have been looking around for an intel D875PBZ board. they any good?, I got my first board as a board/chip combo.. any clue if the Intels do the same?

Again, Thank you, Domo Atrigato, and Danke for any and all help you give. :D

In most cases you will, even if not, its highly advised

will my OEM copy still work for it.
MOst likely not.

What's the budget? :)

budget when I posted was $300 to $700 but now that ive been looking(and drooling) its gotten alittle bigger. hehe I'd say one grand. $1,000 or little more. ive been peeking around and heard that the intel D875PBZ runs a bit hot. also that asus would be the way to go. seeing as how ive no clue what is worth buying and whats not when it comes to MoBo's. Sos?
biggest reason. ive got an AGP 4x slot. was running a Geforce4 Ti 4600(non OC'd) then switched to a FX 5700le (oc'd to 275mhz) and got the same results. guess that would be bottle necking?.
as for AGP... since the express cards are comming out. is it worth getting a new motherboard and all for 8x. or go for the express 16x types?

what is best to get? a new copy of OEM home XP. or buy a full version that is normal?
for the price range im in. for about $1,200 something. I can get ncix.com to do their little "build it" option and get a really nice system. which is no fun for me. but hey.. least I know it would be done correctly *points at his computer and laughs... then remembers he built it*

thanks for replying by the way Praetor

okie. I am going to wait until after the holidays hopefully for price drops and such. I have been looking around still and since I am replacing the MoBo, chip, video card, and etc.. I am gonna build just a whole new rig. heres what ive found and perked my interest:

CASE: SUNBEAM TRANSFORMER FULL TOWER
PSU: OCZ PowerStream 420Watt Low Noise
Mobo: DFI LanParty PRO 875
CPU: Intel P4 3.0c chip
RAM: OCZ 184pin DDR400 PC 3200 2x512 kit
VIDEO: eVGA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256 DDR3 AGP
SOUND: my current Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platnium.
HDD: Western Digital Raptor 10,000RPM 74GB SATA 4.5ms 8mb 5yr mfr war
MONITOR: my LG FLATRON L1920P 19" TFT Monitor DVI connection
KEYBOARD: SAITEK Gaming Keyboard Blue LCD
MOUSE: RAZOR Diamondback RZ-1600 chameleon green USB

after waking up the next morning and blinking as I found, the MoBo is 0.5 to big for the case. the case is sweet looking, so I want to try and keep it. but the MoBo is also sweet looking(to me atleast) is there a better brand for me? or a different model of LANPARTY that would fit??
add in a copy of XP and its up around $1,500+ USD which by after newyears, I'd have budgeted more than that for my new toy..

I plan to keep it under $2,000 and might OC the CPU up slightly. but thats about it. I am also missing a Heatsink and fan for it because the chip I found doesnt ship boxed with one.. any suggestions as to a good quiet one for it that is also strong enough to handle a little OC'ing?

Define a bit hot :)

The same results doing what?

It depends on what you want to do and when you plan on upgrading next :) Right now ... it doesnt really matter which way you go.

Depends on if you plan on upgrading/reinstalling anytime... if you do then a full version would be the way to go

Get a new case. The case isnt the greatest aesthetically IMO and you can certainly do better regardless

oops.. pressed reply to quick.. ahh.. got to love little sleep!..
looking at the MoBo it says it wants a P not a C type.. would C work? O.o
oy I have no clue what im doing.. but its so fun.. atleast when I havent baught the parts yet hehe...

ive got a sony dvd player internal drive.. other than the platnium upgrade box. that is only a total of 2 large bays. then one small for a floppy, then internal place for the hdd.. thats all I need as for bays. anyone know of a nicely built case that doesnt come with a PSU? or since Im not going to OC hardcore. do I still need a OCZ PSU?

was meaning CPU.. a p4 3.0gigc or not.. didnt know if the prescotts were 3.0gig p or not.. *shrugs* noob'ed myself.. hehe. looking at the forums. you recommended the thermaltake PSU. how much will I need to run a basic system.. I dont have many add-ons. I know its a losing battle to take on. but I am planning on making this sytem last for long as possible. want it to stay useable playing games online and such without having to be upgraded.

1. You had a superb PSU.
2. The 6800Ultra is gonna be obsolete roughly in the same time the 6800GT is.

ah.. so within next month *nods* :P j/k hehe.. thanks for the clearing up about CPU's dunno whether im going to go into the PCI-E realm just yet.. since I have no friends that use it so far. which means if I oops something. im screwed... gonna stick with agp8x until the tech becomes more widely (which will be soon.. but im building now so eh) DFI's stable? they come with nice bundles of rounded cables out of the box. since they suite what im doing. was looking at them.

Depends on the board. IN general yes. (also, dont buy a mobo jus because its got some [silly] rounded cables) ;)
