I used to be a crazy gamer but I went overseas for a couple of years and fell out of gaming and PC hardware. I've just returned and I bought some games, Cyrsis being one of them. Man does my rig suck when playing that game. I think my video card is my bottle neck. this is my rig:

Intel Q6600
4gb ram
250gb hd
7800GTX

I want to upgrade my video card but I dont want to spend that much $$$. However, I want to get something that will make a good improvment, so I need to find a video card thats somewhere in the middle of $$$ and performance.

I was looking at these, dont know how much of an improvement it will be over my 7800GTX:

9800GT

Radeon HD 4850

Or if I want to spend more money....

GTX 260

Radeon HD 4870

The reason why I like Nvida is I've never had a card die on me yet and I can get a free copy of FarCry 2 if I buy their card.

The GTX 260 is a fabulous card, with massive performance, if you want to spend the money. If you REALLY want to spend the money, go all the way to the GTX 280. However, if you are looking for reasonable power, performance and price, I would suggest going with an 8000 series card, still. The 8800GT/GTX/GTX+ line are all very reasonably priced and can play all of the newest games on the market, not necessarily at maximum settings. For example, my old MSI NX8800GT OC Editing could play Crysis with all settings on high, 18q antialiasing at a 1024x768. If you tell me how much you want to spend, I can do a little research.

I think any of those cards you've looked at would be a massive improvement over your 7800! You'll definitly see a difference!

I'd recommend the ATi 4800 series as ive had one for the past week and it runs all my new games (Far Cry 2, PES2009, Rainbow6 Vegas) maxed out @ 1280x1024, Full AA etc

Especially with that cpu & RAM you wont have any problems running the latest games!

I would suggest the 4850 or 4870. The higher end Nvidias are kind of overpriced at the moment.

And yes, your CPU deserves a much better GPU. ;) It's being severely bottlenecked.
