Upgraded my CPU from 2.2 to 3.2 but no improved performance

The dude just said in Windows. Going from one quad to another isnt going to make Windows seem that much different. He can move his 1gb. stick over to the second slot or get him a good set of matched sticks. But like I said, if he thinks its going to make Windows alot faster, Blah Blah Blah. Aint going to happen.

Go F yourself buddy.

First of all, I'm not a kid. Second of all, I've said to fix his ram in every post I've made pretty much. And third of all, you are wrong....having ram in single channel mode VS dual channel will not be some miracle speed fix. It's not THAT noticeable.

And one last note, you don't even know what speed is with your 5 year old POS sempron and IDE hard drive. Boots to OS in 25 seconds? haha, I could take a quick nap for that mine is about 10 seconds so again go F yourself and what you think you know.

Yeah this guy seems like a guy who gets his jollies off by arguing with people.

Fix the ram seems to be the common consensus, further upgrades can be considered if this does not help the problem.

I do get my jollies off by arguing yes, and I shouldn't have put "these kids". My fault. The RAM configuration, again, is the issue. Not the hard drive, not Windows, not the mobo. Experience, again, tells me so. No need to spend $300 for SSD AND new mobo, and another $200 for Windows 7. That's a bit of an excessive tip to someone who isn't needing all that stuff.

$500 ssd....lol I paid $140 for mine and it's insanely fast + it is THE hugest difference you could ever make in a PC as far as speed goes.

$400 could buy him a new mobo, ram, SSD, and windows 7. Windows 7 OEM copy is $100. Where are you getting your pricing?

If the OP would prefer to spend $400, fine. He's entitled to spend his money as he prefers. As for me, just like everyday life, I look for the real issue at hand to why his computer is running slowly. Now on to the OG topic, the real issue is the RAM, and go buy some good RAM for $** which will be way cheaper than $400.

OMG

Why should he buy DDR2 when it's already getting obsolete? Thats money pissed down the drain.

All he needs to do is use his current ram but just put it in dual channel mode. This will help but it's not going to be any miracle speed increase as you seem to think it will be.
An SSD is THE best upgrade if you want speed, hands down no argument no other upgrade even comes CLOSE to the speed increase an SSD gives. And SSD is $130 (60gb vertex II), and no amount of speed of ram with ever come close to the speed increase it will give.

Haha I love seeing all the butt hurt gents in this thread. I see what disagreeing with the masses causes lolz hell yeah I took down my "boots in 25 seconds". I can't boot in 2 seconds! Anyways, I'm starving, so I'm going grab some chow. Maybe you ladies would care to join me?

Hi

I did as 87dtna suggested and moved the 1GB over to the slot next to the 2GB. Unfortunately the monitor was blank when I tried turning the pc on. I checked connections and that I had installed the RAM correctly (by aligning and pushing until the click). However, there was still nothing.

Bizarrely when put the 1 GB back in its orginal place the pc screen still was blank upon turning off and back on. The only way I can get it to load is by removing the 1GB stick. Is it probable that I damaged the RAM or slot during installation?

If a new set of RAM is required can you recommend a good pair that will fulfil my needs while I am running XP? I am going to save up for Windows 7 and a SSL!

Many thanks

p.s I'm sorry to restoke the fire!

I really appreciate all of your help - in fact you're all so eager that you're arguing with each other- kind of nice in a weird sort of way- reminds me of House!

If you wanna make up just blame the idiot who started this thread!

It is possible that the ram slot died. In that case, try the other two colored slots.

Also, you could try to see if the 1gb stick boots your PC by taking out the 2gb completely and putting the 1gb stick in the same slot, just to see if your PC boots. That will confirm for sure if the stick is dead or not.

If it is dead, I don't really suggest buying any new DDR2 ram other than perhaps another stick the exact same as your 2gb stick. What brand and speed is your current 2gb stick?

I suggest you save up for an AM3 motherboard with DDR3 ram. It'd really be a waste of money especially since DDR2 prices are higher than DDR3 currently.

DDR3 is much cheaper now and buying a new MB is not a bad idea if you can afford it. That MB may not allow you to pull out the full potential of that new chip
