Upgraded ram on laptop and ow laptop is much slower

I have an Asus u46e which supports up to 8 gigs of ram. I upgraded to DDR3, 1066 8 gig ram. It had 4 gig DDR3 1066 ram. I have Windows 7 64 bit and an Intel i5 460m processor. Windows and bios both read 8 gigs of ram. Starup however is much slower. I get a black screen for about 3-5 minutes before Windows finally lows. I run Soluto and my average boot time before was 1:45 seconds, now it's over 4 minutes. The computer overall just seems slower. Was there something else I'm suppose to adjust? I bought two sets of ram because I have another computer I'm upgrading and both sets do the same thing.

I looked at Asus's specs for your pc and it uses:

DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 G SDRAM

Just curious why you went with a slower ram?

Also when you are in windows does it show 8 gb of ram?

I made a mistake it is 1333. It shows in Windows 8 GB but only 7.8 useable. I'm assuming that's for the integrated graphics.

If the machine is slower since adding more memory, its most likely from one of the sticks being faulty. Run memtest.

Running memtest now. I really don't know much about this. It's been an hour and it's only 50% done. Does it normally take this long?

Memtest should look like this.

If it doesn't look like that then you aren't running memtest. And you should run it for at least a few hours to be sure.

That is what it looks like. It has been running for two hours. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to be doing/looking for.

As long as you see no red in the bottom half of the screen there are no erros.

What brands of ram do you have. Have you tried using just the new ram to see if the speed comes back? If so, then its ram compatibility between the 2. Same timings and speed?

Can't explain it then, sorry. only other options I can think of is see if there is a setting in the bios to reset all to defaults and see if that helps. With laptops, there aren't many settings to change.
