Upgrades and Futureproofing

Alright, i've got a few questions as to some of the new technology that has come out recently.

I've got a bit of money and i REALLY want to get away from my first-gen Phenom, so i'm going to upgrade to a nice AM3 system. However, a there are a few things i want to confirm before i buy anything.

Firstly, with the new DDR3, what is the performance difference between DDR3 1333 and DDR3 1600.

Secondly, with the new 790X chipset, it only allows CrossfireX x8, x8. If i ever decide to crossfire, will this hurt the performance substantially over a 790FX x16 x16 setup.

Thanks for answering and feel free to make any suggestions.

No much at all, unless you run a benchmark you could not tell the difference. But if you can get 1600 for close to the same price, go for it.

If you get any card above a 4870 it will kill a few FPS and more the higher up cards you go. Like two 5850/70 would take a bigger hit then two 4870 would.

The benchmarks I read said there was virtually no difference - but I saw some slight improvement on gaming speed.

Of course it could be the placebo effect :good:
