I'm going to upgrade my cpu soon and I was wondering if I need to reload my operating system after I make the switch?

As long as it's just the CPU, no. If you're planning on swapping out the motherboard as well, you'll pretty much have to re-install.

For better performace you could re-install your system and update your BIOS... but actully it is not really necessary

If you need to flash your Bios for the new processor, flash it before you install it. And no you dont need to reinstall upgrading the processor.
