Upgrading a laptops Graphics card?

Ok, I got a fairly new laptop, bought about a month ago, I'm running a Nvidia 8200M as I speak. now I can't figure out how to find a graphics card to update this one, because it seems like no one carry's them, also I can't seem to find where the graphics card is IN the computer, I opened the slots on the bottom but they are all for the HD wlan card and RAM, nothing for a graphics card, do I h ave to take apart the computer more throughly? And how do I know a graphics card in the store is for a laptop or not, I can't figure it out!

unless it has an 8600gts or something for a graphics card, it can't be upgraded, and as for buying a graphics card, it would either be from an oem(dell) or ebay

Why only for that video card? Is the video card of a laptop made differently meaning it can't be taken out and replaced or something?

around 300 dollars for an 8600gt(guess) assuming you can even upgrade your graphics card, something like 8800 gtxm would be around 900 dollars, its just like a normal graphics card, it has a slot, but you have to have a heatpipe that would fit on top of that

just a question. if you were to buy a laptop with a lousy graphic card, you're screwed?

8200M probably isn't upgradable... And just for the records, I was given a Dell with an 8600M in it and it was completely intergrated; dedicated onboard RAM and everything... This was quite unfortunate seeing as the only problem was the video card...

wow... lol Totally Intergrated.

My old laptop had a 6800go. This was upgradeable... I even took the card out to clean the laptop a couple of times...

if you are seriously looking I would take apart the laptop and see if the video card is removeable. if it is do some detailed research into what sort of socket it is... I dont think its as simple as AGP or PCI-e, i think there are several different types. then you have to actually find a card that would work that you can buy, which is another challenge...

but by the time you have bought a card for $900 it might be worth looking at a new laptop / desktop... but as you bought it a month ago i doubt this is an option
