I am thinking of upgrading my cpu from a Athlon XP1800+ to a Athlon XP 2400+. A couple questions come to mind when doing this, such as will it make even the slightest bit of difference? What are all the compatibility issues I need to check into to make sure it's perfectly compatible?

My pc specs are as follows:

Processor
Athlon (T) XP1800+ 1.53 Ghz /w QuantiSpeed Architecture
Advanced 266 Mhz FSB
Socket A

Motherboard
DB282A-ABA 304w
Motherboard Supplier FIC
Motherboard Name AM37
System BIOS Supplier Award
Form Factor uATX
Processor Brand AMD
Processor Socket Type Socket-A (PGA462)
Processor Family Duron, Athlon, AthlonXP
Proc. Front Side Bus Freq. 200/266 MHz
Chipset Name VIA KM266

Memory
256MB PC2100 DDR
Speed Supported PC2100 / PC 1600

Cache
L1 128Kb
L2 256Kb

If you need more information to provide some advice just let me know.
I mainly use the pc for gaming, and running photoshop.

I'd say get the fastest CPU the motherboard supports. I'm not very familiar with AMD specs as I'm an Intel guy so I'm not sure the fastest you can put in that board. I did a quick check and learned FIC has the worst site. But beyond that, put some more memory in there, especially if you run Photoshop.

What kind of OS are you running? Because that RAM amount is pretty insufficient for today's standards.

Honestly, I would just save your money for a whole new rig. You can put one together for pretty cheap these days, especially with older tech from one or two generations ago, and it'd still be a huge upgrade for you. I would not spend another dime on that system, unless for some reason, you absolutely need to.

i wud save up and get a modern PC imo. Theres only so much u can go with upgrading that mobo and its not very far. Its real cheap to build a comp nowadays.
