Upgrading CPU

I have a Gateway GT5620 with a duo core Intel Pentium E2140 / 1.6 GHz. I believe I can update to a Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 Processor BX80571E7500 - 2.93GHz, 3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Wolfdale-3M, Dual-Core, Retail, Socket 775, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks for any assitance.

E7500 probably won't work.
Your motherboard with 945GC chipset, support up to FSB 800MHz. So best CPU would probably be E5400. However, I don't know if you need BIOS update for that.

as far as the socket goes, you should be fine, but as daisymtic said, The chipset probably won't support the FSB of the C2D(1066Mhz) :P the multiplier of pentium G6950 is 21, clock speed is 2.8Ghz, so... Divide the speed by the multiplier *fumbles for a calculator* is...

133Mhz!
:D Get yourself one of them! Pentium G6950 is often forgotten 'cos basically it's just an E7500 :P

Pretty much. You've heard of The clock speed of CPU's, right? e.g. an intel atom N270 runs @ 1.6Ghz (gigahertz). 133Mhz is the Front side Bus. It basically carries data between the CPU and the northbridge (look that up on wikipedia if your not sure) The speed of a CPU is calculated by multiplying the FSB by the multiplier (again, wikipedia) For instance, the intel atom N270 I talked about previously has a Multiplier of 3 :)
