Upgrading Current Equipment

Hello,

I have a Emachines H5212 (nothing special)
I dont have a huge amount of funds so I am looking to upgrade this machine rather than start new. What should I start with? I am running 2gb ram which is the max for this mohterboard. I would like to be able to run Flight Simulator X better than I am right now. This motherboard has a PCI Express slot as well.

Should I repl. the motherboard?
Power Supply?
Processor?
Everything is original except the Ram (512 originally) and ht DVD-R.

Suggestion Please?

Thanks,

What about CPU? Any benefits to replacing this? Or is there even any new ones that would be compatible w. my Motherboard.

Okay so I guess then the best thing to do would be to just spend the money and build one from scratch. Any suggestions. It will be the first system Ive ever built from scratch so any suggestions would be much appreciated. I dont need anything too crazy, I need something that will run FSX well and preferably something that is easy to upgrade.

Thanks

How much will you be able to spend?

Yeah, that's your best option. As he said, whats your budget?

Hey, I had the same problem as you.

I have an old Dell Dimension and the only things that you can upgrade that are worth it at all are RAM, the psu and a graphics card.

Your RAM is at it's max, so that's taken care of.

I bought this graphics card that goes in a PCI Express x16 slot

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130511&Tpk=geforce 8600 gts

It runs world of warcraft with all the settings maxed out. Ive had it for 4 months and use my computer a lot! It is quiet, runs great and has had no sign of dying on me. You don't even have to upgrade your power supply. Mine is a 350 watt and it runs great. The only thing you may need to do is run out and get an extension cable from your power supply to your graphics card, mine didn't reach but yours may be different.

Hope this helps

I would like to stay as close to $500.00 as possible, but I also don't want to waste $500.00 and build a rinky dink machine. If I need to spend more I will but I would like to stay at the lower end of the budget. Possibly build something for a decent price that i can upgrade without spending a fortune down the road. I thought about re-using my case but it doesnt look to be the best case for building with. I was at a local Computer store today and the guy said I would have to spend about $900.00 for him to build me something half decent. A little more than I am looking to spend. Also I found a used computer I am considering buying and upgrading if its worth it. here are the Specs.
Dual Core AM2 4200 CPU
MSI Motherboard w. K9N Platinum Sound and Lan on Board
2 gig of Ram (can be upgraded)
Enermax Power Supply
HIS ATI 3650 Video Card
250gb Sata HD
Good? Bad? Otherwise?

Okay, so I have decided for the time being I am going to have to work w. what I have.

Specs.
E210882 Motherboard
Intel Pentium D 2.66Ghz Processor
2GB DDR2 Ram (1x2gb)
Nvidea GeForce 9400 GT Video Card
Hitachi Deskstar 120GB HD ATA/133
Bestec 300W Power Supply
Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2

I know nothing on this list is anything worth bragging about.
I have already ordered a XCLIO GoodPower 500W Power Supply.

First off, is there a Motherboard I can get that will be compatible w. my Ram, and Video Card and CPU. I would like get a MoBo that can take more Ram and also be able to upgrade my CPU in the near future.

I would also like to get a new case as the one I have is a Emachines H2120 case and does not leave me with much space.

Any other suggestions? How can I make this computer somewhat decent to save me from spending loads of cash.

Thanks

I suggest Antec 300 case. It's good value. This one comes with 4 fans,
so you won't have to pay $10/ea for fans later.

Don't buy things with mail-in-rebate. It usually takes 3 months or more
to get your money back. And sometimes you never get the rebate at
all.
