Upgrading Decision, help

So currently for both my Christmas and birthday presents (Them being so close) I'm upgrading my computer. That being said, I'm going to be upgrading my GPU to a MSI 980, i7 chip, and a mobo. I'm stuck between if I should upgrade to LGA 2011 mobo's with a i7 5820k cpu in slot so I can upgrade cpu's down the road without upgrading mobo's. Or option two I upgrade to a LGA 1150 mobo with an i7 4790k cpu and just sit on what's currently more supported.
So to sum up, 2011 cpu socket mobo for any reason you could justify OR 1150 mobo for any reason as well.

Budget?

If you only really game then 1150 might save you some dough. Otherwise if cash isn't a big deal or you are more of a power user I'd probably go x99 at this point.

My budget isn't really a problem, I'm going with a 1.1k 1.2k budget, I just want to know if it's worth going for the 2011 or the 1150.

I would go with 1150, get an i7 4790K and the nicest GPU you can afford.

Don't wait 2 or 3 months for the next generation. Buy when you have the money. If you end up waiting you'll keep trying to decide what to get when you could have just made up your mind and gone with the best thing currently available.

If the next generation was coming out in a week or two I'd tell you to wait but 2 or 3 months? No.

with the majority of games only using 4 cores unless you do a lot of rendering and compressing work then i would go with an i7 quad core, a 4790k should be perfect and will save you some money. Its up to you if you want to wait for the new generation of cpu's to see how they compare but it would be a good few months away.

I would put that saved money into a good mobo, GPU and quality cpu cooler if you have not got one already. for a gpu id go for a GTX 980.

the difference between cpu's isnt much at around £40. but factor in the 2011 mobo and ddr4 RAM then it soon adds up.

Man, this is really just coming down to asking if I myself want to be in the 2011 gen enthusiast build I suppose or not, because I can afford both. DDR3 RAM sticks for some 2011 mobo's will accept well. It's just the decision if I wish to upgrade. Or unless anyone has a reason to oppose going with DDR3 ram 2011 socket mobo's. But if that's the case as well might as well get a 1150 one because it would be a waste of a 2011 and only DDR3 unless it was to accept both.

Yes, be careful. Socket 2011 and 2011-3 are two different things. Socket 2011 is the 3 and 4 series 2011 cpus and 2011-3 are 5 series with DDR4.

The major difference is more available logical cores, higher RAM bandwidth (Quad Channel) and more PCIe lanes. If you're wanting the best, 2011 is it. If you don't need it or money is tight, stick with 1150.

You can see my sig as to what i chose.
