Upgrading Dell for a friend

A friend of mine wants to upgrade his pc (video card). He wants the best bang for his buck but nothing over $150. He is upgrading a Dell that is about 5 years old. His goal is to play upcoming pc games at max settings. I am not sure if this is possible with his current set up. He has a intel quadcore 2.4 Ghz processor. Any help?

It has a stock 375 watt power supply, so you'll have to end up changing that out as long as it doesn't have any proprierary connections. If the budget is $150 then a good psu will be around $60. HD 5770 will run around $130-150. So you are looking at at least $200

A 5770 with a new power supply like johnb suggested paired with that CPU will allow him to run most games at high settings. He will probably see it struggle with maxed out settings on some existing games and games coming out in the near future, but the 5770 provides great "bang for the buck" performance.

agree with dan, its a good card and can play all the new games...but like john said, he'll need new PSU
