Rather than blabber away in long sentences and paragraphs, I thought I'd just stick to the point. Basically I just need some guidance on what to get for my needs and budget. I have an idea of what to get already, but other opinions are welcome!
Why upgrade from the 5870? It's getting old and I'm in a difficult situation here: do I keep my 5870 and then never sell it at all (or sell it for pennies in the distant future), or do I get rid ASAP when I can still make some money from it, and buy something newer?
AMD drivers result in Photoshop crashing when GPU acceleration is enabled in Photoshop and Premiere in Windows 8, due to the drivers not being good enough to support GPU acceleration. The solution is to disable GPU acceleration but this slows everything down.
Budget? £200 max probably, maybe £250.
New or used? Either really, though used may give me better performance at a better price.
AMD or NVIDIA? NVIDIA, for reasons said above. CUDA mainly.
Gaming? Yes - at 1080p. I don't do much gaming though, only Dirt 3 and Just Cause 2, both of which I can already max out at 1080p on my 5870.
Editing? Yes. Photoshop and Premiere Pro, so CUDA would be great!
What cards am I interested in? If buying used, probably something along the lines of a 570 or a 580 (I don't really want to go any older than GTX 500). If new, probably a 660 or a 660 Ti.
RAM? More than 1GB would be nice, so 1.25GB or more.
So there's my criteria, but I'm really not sure what to get or if it would be worth upgrading at all? Any guidance as to what to get or what I should do would be great, thanks.
