Hey, i currently have a 2.8GHz Pentium D. its not so great. i play CSS and it really hurts my fps alot of the time, at least im pretty sure its my processor. my specs are:

Pentium D 2.8GHz
EVGA 7950GT 512mb
2GB RAM
i945p is my chipset

what kind of processor should i get? or recommended upgrades without spending too much. i also have an ATI 2600xt 512mb vid card which i do not use, im not sure which is better.

For gaming I would get at least a Intel Dual Core. If you have money an i7 from intel works amazing. If you don't want to spend all the money I like AMD Phenom II's was just messing with one the other day.. No need for single cores, get at least a dual core.

Build it custom as well.

I think your video card is more of a bottleneck more than your processor. But please also post your motherboard specifications.

my mobo supports 800/1066 FSB and it will support core2duo's i was looking at the E7400...but i thought about it alot and everthing is due for an upgrade really so i'll probably just wait a while and build a new one in the future.
