Upgrading from XP to 7

Flash works OK. Most programs will work with x64, the only programs that don't work usually have drivers included in them. You can also get x64 versions of most programs if necessary, but as I said, every program I threw at 7 x64 (239!) worked.

first you backup your current files and then you format in during the installation process then install windows 7

There is no 64 bit verson of flash for Firefox, I have 3.5 gb of ram and still run 7 32bit, Im not making the leap to 64 bit,

Ok. But thats not really a valid reason to avoid W7 64 bit. I have 3GB RAM, didn't hesitate to install the 64 bit version over the 32 bit version and Firefox runs fine within W7 64 bit.

If your running a CPU that can't deal with 64 bit integers then yea sure, go with a 32 bit OS.
