Upgrading Gaming Rig

Hey guys,

I'm looking at upgrading my current build, which, on my 1920x1280 Asus 24" LCD (brand new), I've been able to max out any game (Crysis, Starcraft II, Crysis II, etc......) with my current build, but unfortunately, some of my components as I realize, are going to soon become obsolete.

Before getting ahead of myself, here's my current build:

Intel Q6600 Core2 Quad @ 2.4 GHz
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Superclocked/Dual-Fan (Just bought 1 month ago; the crown jewel of my current build)
4 GB Kingston DDR2 PC2-6400 (2x2GB)
2X 500 GB WD Internal HDs
LG Optical Drive (DVD/CD, read/write time is kinda irrelevant here)
OCZ ModX Stream Pro 700W Modular PSU (1 year old, also bought last year)
Generic Intel MOBO DG31PR ......thus inhibits me from even overclocking my CPU whatsoever :'(
Awesome Silver MDG Full Sized Case
Acer 23" 720p LCD
ASUS 24" 1080p LCD (brand new, bought a month ago!!!)

So here's the scenario:

I am basically looking at upgrading solely the 1) CPU, 2) MOBO, and 3) RAM.

Ideally, I'd like to get a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade of the core of my system for about $250, ideally. I found some ideas for an upgrade on newegg. Consisted of this:

I would like to have these upgrades render my build SUPERIOR for a few years to come, given that my current GPU, PSU, and case are all excellent. My hard drives....I dunno what to do about those right now.

The other thing, I'd DEFINITELY like to get an SLI mobo, so I could possibly pair up another 560 Ti in the future....not too well versed on SLI at this point though. I could buy an MSI or a Zotac and pair it with my EVGA, as long as the GPU core is the same>?

Thanks guys! Looking forward to your helpful responses!

Nick

Btw, I am probably not looking at playing on a resolution of 2560x1680 or anything like that. Full HD is the highest I'll be playing.

If you do want a system that is future proof, get an AM3+ board so you can update to the new bulldozer CPUs. That board will not support SLI, since it only has one 16x slot and one 4x slot.

Best board you can get with SLI and AM3+. It may be going over your budget, but it'd be worth it. Try the 955 instead of the 965. A little cheaper and you won't notice any difference.

You will also need a copy of win7, since your copy is tied to your motherboard you have currently, unless you have the retail version of win7.
