Upgrading HP Desktop

A friend of mine is desperate to play swtor with his old PC. As of now its all bugged and messed up so Im going to reformat it and install win 7.

Its an HP Pavilion a6655f
Amd Phenom X4 9150e Quad Core
5gb ram
Nvidia Geforce 6159se
300w power supply
640gb HD

I have an 8800 gt sitting in my closet but im pretty sure that 300w power supply isnt enough.

If he buys a better psu and i put in the 8800 gt. Any idea what kind of performance that will give him?

I could try without the psu to at least see what the performance is like but dont want to mess up the system.

Any Ideas?

Yeah, should fit okay as the case looks like it takes a standard atx power supply and not a micro atx one.

I went ahead with that PSU and did a clean install of win 7 and updated the necessary drivers.

Everything went smoothly until i started testing games. It started freezing after a few mins of playing. There were no artifacts on screen. Game would just suddenly pause and there was no way to get outa there without a manual reboot.

I have rivatuner making sure the fan goes up to 100% after 65C or so. And the highest i noticed the temp was around 75c but i was always in full screen when it would freeze so not 100% sure.

Any ideas? I turned on rivatuner logging but hasnt frozen since. I even ran furmark burn test for about 25 mins and it sat around 77c full load and didnt freeze. not sure what to do next.

Maybe his memory? He hasnt been using this comp for anything other than web browsing and flash gaming so its never really been stressed.

Try different sets of drivers. Some aren't as stable as others. If that don't work, I'm not sure. He definately has enough memory, wouldn't hurt to run memtest on it though.

maybe a new aftermarket perforamnce cpu cooler to cool it down, seems to be running hot, and does the computer have enough of other fans to keep it cool....
