Hey all.

Ive decided i need to upgrade myc omputor, so i can play some more recent games, and some games yet to be released.

At the moment i have a 2.2 ghz intel, 1.280 gb of 2100 ddr, and a ge force mx440.

Ive looked and looked, but i cant find what speed the agp slot is ont he motherboard.

I was thinking maybe i should just get a new motherboard, with a 478 skt, so i can use my current processor.

I was thinking of this,

And this graphics card,

and two sticks of this

Is this the best stuff i could get for around £500/550? ($951/1,045)

I realise that my processor isn't the best, but they are dammed expensive so i will upgrade that later.

thanks for any help

I would recommedn getting a newer socket, with PCI-E graphics if your going to upgrade everything, since even a low-end Athlon 64 would be much better then your current CPU, and you can buy a 7600GT instead, and use the extra savings for the processor.

But if you don't want to do that, I would recommend going with the x850 series, since there much cheaper but have similar or higher performance then the 7800gs.

forgive my ignorance, but i dont have much knowledge at all about this kinda stuff.

So you think i should get a more more modren procsessor? WIth PCI-E? well i can get my hands on a pci e card for free from a friend.

Have you got any suggestions on what mobo and proccesor to get, or what is hould be looking for?

Thanks for you help mate ;)

EDIT just found some intel processors at around the hundred pounds mark. They are arnound 3 ghz and pretty big chaches. (whatever they are)

any advice?

well even if you upgraded the mobo, you'd need to format your hd unless you get one with the same chipset,by the look of things, your cpu and ram are outdated

processors really aren't that bad now....i got mine for $97..and the mobo for $64

thats $151 ...toss in a gig of dual channel ram @ $80 and a $200 - $250 graphics card....thats about $400...if thats still well within your budget make it 2 Gbs of ram and an x1900xt video card

Well, I can tell you that board is crappy for those CPUs. They are dogs. Definitely avoid it.

Athlon64s are nothing to brag about. They are old news (like REALLY old) and there is so much better out there now. If you're going to even bother with AMD, go to the AM2 socket, but I wouldn't.

I do recommend the Core2Duo. You won't have to upgrade for a long time, they kick the crap out of AMD, and THEY'RE something to brag about. I don't know. AMD had they're time in the limelight, but it came and went.
