Upgrading My PC

Hello im new here.

Iv come because I wanna know if there are anymore possibilities for upgrading my pc mainly to play pc games. (mainly cause my dad doesnt want to get me a new pc) My pc specs are

Manufacturer:
Dell Computer Corporation
Processor:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz, ~2.4GHz
Memory:
638MB RAM
Hard Drive:
39 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6200
Monitor:
Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card:
SoundMAX Digital Audio
Speakers/Headphones:
Logitech Extreme PC Gaming Headset
Keyboard:
USB Root Hub
Mouse:
Logitech G5
Mouse Surface:
Polished Wood
Operating System:
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

I know I can upgrade my memory, but only to 1 gig, is it worth it?

Also I have a pci (not express) because i fell into the dell trap of them not putting in an agp or pci e slot and i only had integrated graphics, so i bought the best pci card the nvidia 6200. So if you have any suggestions please tell me!!

And I know my harddrive is tiny i have a 200 gig external one.

Personally I don't think that there is a whole lot of potential in this computer because of the lack of a slot for a good graphics card. And if you replaced the motherboard you would be replacing like 90% of the pc.

so can you give me a suggestion on how to change my motherboard

what motherboard i can get
what you need to know to know the above question

I do no wish to replace my proccessor cause those are pricy or my memory, so if you can give me a motherboard that will do this much will be appriciated

If it doesnt even have an AGP slot them basicly its time for a new mobo and basicly a whole new system would be better if you want to game.

Celerons are not that good for gaming at all and you dont have much ram.

If you gave us a budget im sure the guys here could come up with a list.

Yeah. some dude built a good pc for 300.... For 500 or so we could get you up and running.... My rig was 660 (C2D e6320 7950GT 2gigs ram... )

OMFG REALLY!!!!
300 bucks!!

Cheaper the better saying ill probably be paying for it, just something that I know i can upgrade in the future.

How do you guys get it so cheap, OS is like 150-200 itself, video card is 100-200, processor another 200, plus mother board, plus memory,

Thanks guys!!!

Its not gonna last for forever but ya know, good step for a year or so...

wow thanks dude, ill certainly check that out, i might change the AMD proccssor to an intel just because idk iv always used intel.

i might just go to office depot buy an HP or compaq. On sale i can get a descent pc with a duo core 1 gig of mem and a pci e slot for like 500.

try and get a Core 2 duo....not duo core.

unlike alot of people here i would recomend an Hp because mines been reliable and ive had no problems with it whatsoever but thats my own opinion.

But i still think you could save more money if you got the parts and built it yourself.

Yeah, HP (formaly Compaq) are really good PC's, if you want a pre-built one that is.

I'd recomend building it yourself, cheaper and better :)

reason i dont want to build

1. lol i dont trust myself
2. takes time and i dont have alot
3. i dont trust myself (i know i repeated this)

and i can go to office depot buy an HP and be done, or just buy a video card and be done.

No see, the HP computers are inadiquate in that you would have to probobly invest in a better powersupply, and the cases aren't spectacular as far as cooling goes.... Because these are two likely cantidates for upgrading the price is prettymuch the same for you anyhow....
But really, you dont trust yourself to plug in some wires and cards into the correct places? Thats pretty bad. Even I trusted myself to do it all correctly, and so far it has worked out perfectly, and amazingly cheap, even realitive to the prices of an HP machine...

Are HP and Gateway partnering or something? Their cases are similar, with all the flip-up panels and the new hot-swappable drive thing they both incorporated in their design, AT the same time.

Not to bash your guys opinion but, HP is viewed as being bad, in the US, anyway. I can tell you why too, most of us go to work and use them everyday, a lot of schools buy them for $600/each, and most problems that make you angry happen at work on these computers.
