Currently I have a p4 2.4 ghz proc and I have been thinking of upgrading it. At first I thought of overclocking it but it turns out I have an intel D875PBZ board (http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bz/index.htm?iid=ipp_browse+motherbd_d875pbz&)
and apparently those cant be OCed. A friend also told me that instead of buying a new mobo and OCing, I could buy a new AMD 64 3200 (which should run at 2ghz, right?) and a DFI "LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb" (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-136-147&depa=1)
This friend said that AMD has short pipelines and thus the 3200 would act roughtly like a 3.2 ghz intel. If I could OC this CPU then im figuring it would be better then just buying a new mobo.
What do y'all think? I think I have sufficient cooling for OCing, I have like 5 fans on my case.
Edit: would it be better for me to get a stronger CPU or will this be alright after the OC?
