This is my current system:
Abit NF7-S v2.0
AMD Athlon 3200+(Barton)
1024 pc3200 ram
G4 TI 4600 128mb
Barracuda 7200rmp 80gig HD

I upgraded to that in June of 2004.

I have been almost completely out of the loop in terms of harware since I built this system. I am a gamer. BUT I really don't need AA and AF all that much. Can someone recomend a good upgrade. I'm looking to stay around 500-700 bux(maybe more if it is really worth it. In all honesty, I plan on buying most if not all components on the Anandtech for sale forums so that should cut some cost. Thanks in advance.

All I would get is a new graphic card which would be well under $500. I sugest the 6800GT AGP.

well what time frame are you looking at? 34erd's right about the components though, the graphics card is the only thing that's really outdated on it, you could go for a faster processor and new mobo, but if you wanna squeeze another year or year and a half out of it, then a graphics card ought to hold you over pretty well, other than that, if you're running low on hard drive space, you could get a second, but I have no idea how much you've got on there either

thats a nice setup and a new gfx card would definitly be a good upgrade. he cpu is a bit dated but my old barton 2800 still holds up to some new games at mid-level quality well, so you could do without a cpu upgrade for a little while longer. 1GB is great and 80GB hdd is pretty good for now.

Thanks guys. On anandtech, they are advising me on a 939(processor) and a 7800(nvidia). What do you think. And maybe more ram. I play alot of simulation type games(il2, soon to be released armed assault) as well as other types of gamea(i tend to stay away from what i call "graphic games" like doom 3, far cry, fear(games that are mostly known for their graphics rather than gameplay.

I agree with everyone else, although i'd look for the 6800GS rather than the GT - very similar performance for significantly less money.

As for your latest question, a 939 processor will require a mobo upgrade, so you're basically looking at a whole new computer. The video card should be enough to tide you over for a while
