Is this stuff compatible?

My computers specs
UPGRADING:

Here is what has been recommended to me thus far. And I found some on my own. Sorry for making a new thread... this seems to be too off-topic...

GPU: SAPPHIRE 100228L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card
Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory (I would purchase two to max my memory out at 2GB)
Pentium 4 IV P4 CPU 3.2Ghz 3.2 512k/800 Northwood 478
If you know of a better CPU PLEASE tell me, I would rather have a retail/new in box possibly. So? They seem to be hard to find

Thanks guys!

that ram is to fast for your system your computer can only have pc2700

and i would recommend just doing a new build i think that graphics card will be a waste of money its 125 dollors, i would just get a whole new build this one is outdated, hp has systems that arnt ment to be upgraded or somthing lolz.

yeah, but that is really exspensive for a graphics card of that quality

i would just get a new motherbored that can have the same kind of cpu as you have for like 40 dollors then you could find a graphics card as good as that one for like another 50 and you could have better/ more ram in there most boards now come with ddr 800 240 pin

So what you are saying;

Get a new mobo that can support my current CPU?

I would like find a cheap temp-ish mobo that will support my cpu, but is compatible with newer components so I can later upgrade my cpu/mobo and not have to change everything else out.

Do they make it? What do you recommend? I don't want to spend any money really, but I know it helps you so $300 maybe? Or whatever you recommend. Any ideas are helpful,

Thanks

This graphics card would be compatible if I was to upgrade to a newer mobo... In a little while I want to get a better mobo/cpu (i like the q6600)... If they are compatible I would rather spend the $ on an awesome graphics card, and not upgrade again later on down the road. I play very intensive 3D games.

Thanks, I picked the same stuff out (cheaper memory tho, I'm gonna upgrade it later.... and the open boxed mobo)

if im not mistaking when you get your new system in the future, you can use that ram, on it, as long as your system doesnt take ddr3 or anything,

Oh yeah huh, it does not matter if it is lower? Only higher right?

What do you think about the compatibility between that card + mobo and card + future mobo's
?

Thanks

yeah the ram will work as long as its not higher then your cpu can handle for example a regular am2 cpu cannot handle 1066 ram only the am2+ can
am2 can run 667 and 800

that card is the best connection out right now, pci express 2.0 x16, so yeah , with that card if you get a new motherbored you dont have anything to worry about
agp is the old stuff and x16 is getting old, they mostly only make pci 2.0 graphics cards now

this is the best card youll find for under 200, normally its like 250 but they have a sell sweet

or you could go with a 9800 also very good can handle any game

or a 4850 or 4870

i would say the 260 (first link) is the best deal by a long shot, also best bang for your buck

but if you dont get that i would go with the 9800, just because i think the 4850 and 4870 are a little over priced

Well I got that list to upgrade my computer. I will be back, hopefully, if it works.

Another game did not work with my system. I'm anxious for it to all arrive. I hope it fits in my case or plugs in easily.

damn

So I got everything you said to get, then I was reading more of the specs on my computer I found I only have a 250watt power supply. I think the min. for the graphics card was 450 watts... will it ruin anything if I try it, if it's not enough watts it's not enough and it wont run right? What psu should I get?

No, its not. Also, you most likely won't be able to use your existing HP case as the cable connection are proprietary, meaning they won't match up between HP case and new motherboard that wasn't designed for that case. In my opinion if you were spending your money on upgrading I would have spent it on a new up to date motherboard that can run todays processors either AMD or INTEL. That way it leaves you room to upgrade in the future. The slot 478 P4's are so outdated now. You could have built you a a cheap AMD system that can run todays processors with room for upgrades.

Well I can still upgrade the mobo and processor later. This was just a cheap fix to get me into more modern gaming. I am looking at new cases and psus. Thinking of a combo deal... just trying to find a good one.

and i have a good processor. it's someone old but it's 2.6 ghz and if I wanted I could get a 3.2 for $50... fast enough for what I do with it...

what is a good case + psu combo I should consider? I don't want to break the bank. Everyone on there has such mixed reviews

I'm partial to Rosewill, but just make sure you look at the reviews of each if your shopping from newegg. I do a lot of entry level building of computer so my customers don't need anything special for cases.
