Upgrading Processor in laptop

I have a Compaq Presario R4000 that I really love but Im looking to upgrade to vista so I wanted to max out my performance as much as possible. Ive read that the R4000 is easy for customizing so Im hoping to get some help to verify that.

Heres what I have right now:

Compaq Presario R4000 Notebook

AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3200+
1.99 GHz

1.25 GB of RAM (Upgrading to a full 2 gigs soon)

Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Basically I need to know what can my motherboard handle and what options do I have as far as upgrading the Processor goes? I had a lot of options to choose from when I bought the computer about 2 years ago but I opted for the cheaper route now I want to put some money into it and deck it out. Thanks in advance.

Newer laptops tend to have removable processors. The problem is finding one(it's not a standard desktop processor) and knowing what the laptop can handle. It may have a bios limitation on the max speed as well as cooling problems.

How would I find out if it were removable or not and where would I go to see what my options were? As for the cooling issue, I have heard that a lot but I always run a cooling pad underneath my laptop to help pull the heat away from it. Is it possible to put a more powerful fan in a laptop though?

any good websites that would explain in detail how to remove the procesoor or what kind of socket mine has on it?

you are stepping into a seldom explored realm...the realm of upgrading a laptop cpu... you could check ebay, ect, but prices tend to run pretty steep... i would say get the most $$ out of it, and buy a new one.

Im learning quickly that it is somewhat an unexplored art. I looked on newegg.com on the prices they ran and prices weren't as bad as I first imagined, although they are still pretty steep. I need to know what kind of port I have in order to know what kind I need.
