upgrading RAM

I've read the RAM 101 thread which was very helpful in explaining the nuts and bolts of what RAM is and does. However, it does not allude to how I can figure out what kind of RAM I have. I've looked under properties under My Computer and it says that I have 512 MB and it is of the DIM4400 type. Is there anyway I can figure out more info on this?

Thanks Helmie. I checked out corsair and it made some suggestions. However, there is the 512, 256, and 128 variety. Which one do I get or how would I figure that out?

What motherboard do you have? It depends on the maximum your motherboard can support. I would reccomend getting the 512MB stick, then you would have a total of 1GB.

However, its better to have matched pairs of RAM, so i would suggest you get 2 x 512mb sticks from corsair, and sell what you have.

Helmie, using the belarc software that you recommended, i found that i have the following mobo:

Board: Intel Corporation D845PT AAA67834-304
Serial Number: MY01K5291246521C01WX
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz

I googled it, hoping to save you the trouble, but was not able to find what i was looking for. your advice to buy 2 512 mb chips is sound, but for a guy who's on the fiscal diet, maybe you could save him 50 bucks.
