ok i got a pretty cheap computer that i build LOL. well i decided to upgrade my mobo and my CPU. i want people with experience to give their opinions what i should buy.... with $300 bucks... LOL maybe $350...

here are my choices:

A.)
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (OC it to 3200+)
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB DDR PC-3200 (i think i have to max out my money here)

B.)
AMD Athlon 64 DTR3200 s754 (i heard DTRs hardly works on most motherboard, so maybe just the regular 3200) **or 2800+ cause 3200 is too expensive...
DFI Lanparty UT 250GB s754
(maybe buy the ram later...)

Heres my spec currently:
Athlon XP 2000+ 1.6 ghz
ECS A7k... something i forgot (i believe its VIA VT8366A Apollo KT226A chipset *i used everest*)
PC 2100 512
GeForce FX 5200 128mb ram
330W PSU

i play games... not hard so i dont really need the good vid card right now, currently i just play CS (counter-strike) it doesn't need much of a hella vid card... please i want ur opinions. and im sorry if this doesn't make any sense and its very long i appreciate ur time.

1 The memory isnt befitting the system
2 Dont forget cooling

AMD Athlon 64 DTR3200
You mean "AMD Athlon 64 DDR3200"?

Why not get the 3000? ;)

Whats the budget?

around $350... oh that ram wouldn't be useable? when i overclock i need higher ram timings rather than overclocking it too. i got a question... i thought rams declock *is that right?*, they automatically lower their speed ? well thats what i read or maybe i misread it.

if you look at my current system specs you'll know what my answer is.....i use an earo flow 7 tunnel fan to keep the proc cool it cost me $30 so factor that in. As well make sure you budget for at least one case fan.

This RAM is probably expensive and you will not see the benifits of it. A general 2700 stick will do, but 3200 is reasonably priced also. For the price of CPU's its better off to jump up from the 333 bus and go to the 400 bus with the 3000+ or the 3200+

so u think amd 64 is the best choice and grab the 3000+400mhz rather than the 2800+ with 333mhz? hmmm if i would get the amd64 3000+ and i want to overclock it, should i get a pc3200 or a higher ram?

oh that ram wouldn't be useable?
I didnt say that. What I suggested was that you're getting insnaely good ram and shoving it into a last generation platform.

when I overclock I need higher ram timings rather than overclocking it too.

For what question?

True but when the 333s will OC just as easily to 400 ... :)

so u think amd 64 is the best choice and grab the 3000+400mhz rather than the 2800+ with 333mhz?
Naturally.

hmmm if I would get the amd64 3000+ and I want to overclock it, should I get a pc3200 or a higher ram?
Well for $350 .. getting the platform is more of a concern than the memory :) In general, PC3200 should be your minimum

ok thanks guys, i made up my mind...

-AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Retail
-DFI "LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb" NVIDIA nForce3 250GB
-Thermaltake SILENT BOOST For AMD Opteron and Athlon 64 (All Copper)
-Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 OEM
-AS5

thats all at newegg, and its about $390.83 (no tax) well it will probably drop around $400, o well, i could squeeze a little money from my mom, she's not so stingy ahhahahaha
