Upgrading to Windows 8

I have Windows 7 upgrade, Vista upgrade, XP upgrade, and Windows 2000 full so do I need to load all these OS's to upgrade to Windows 8? That would mean I have to load 5 OS's?

You can do a fresh install using the upgrade disk, just don't enter the key when first installing.

Yeah what John suggested will work, but it's best not to buy Upgrade discs. Buy retail or OEM.

Why buy a retail version when the upgrade version installs the exact same OS?

Because when you come to reinstall it it can be a bit of a hassle. You'd have to install the Upgrade OS and then phone MS to activate it, as an upgrade key will not activate online unless the new OS has been installed as an upgrade - if you get me. That's from my experience with Vista Upgrade at least.

You don't need to install the upgrade OS and never have. In previous versions of Windows you needed to have the OS on the disk OR you could put the install disk in the drive during the install for it to check that you had an upgradeable version. In Win 7, they made it so that you need to have the OS on the disk in order to validate the software. The way around that is to install Win 7 without activating it during install, then go back and activate it afterwards.

I always buy the upgrade version and have never had a problem installing it. I'd rather save some money with the upgrade since MS gives me a discount for being a repeat customer.

Has Microsoft decided to go retail version, I thought they was talking about (OEM) System builders version only?
