Upload/Download Speed difference on laptop and desktop

So as mentioned in the title, theres a big difference in upload speed between my laptop and desktop. Both of them use wireless connections. While my desktop has:
Download Speed: 2354 kbps (294.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 706 kbps (88.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

my laptop has something around .4mbps download and .1mbps upload. I tried moving the laptop closer to the router, and it didnt do anything. I use an extender near where my laptop is normally so my internet speed in general is at 300mbps. The wireless card(Atheros AR9285) in my laptop (asus g73sw a1) isn't working properly and caps my internet speed at 78.0 mbps so I use a usb network adapter(802.11 n)from asus instead which gets me up to 300. So what is this gigantic difference between my laptop and desktop? The fact that my upload speed isnt good affects me in the game I play, Vindictus, and that's never a good thing. :(
does anyone know what could be causing this? I'd appreciate a fast answer.
:)
if any other information is needed, please tell.

First you internet speed and your wifi speed are completely different things, your internet is around 2.5Mbs So either the 78.0Mbs card or the 300Mbs card will make absolutely no difference in speed, as long as they are not faulty.
First Try hard wiring the laptop into the router to ensure that it is not a wifi issue if the issue still persists I suggest you follow the instructions outlined in this thread and then go from there:

I have had issues using wifi for gaming and, from what I have read, this is due to way it sends packets, I used to get ping times constantly around 300ms switched to a wired connection and the change is dramatic, however idk if this issue has been resolved in newer wifi products, I haven't heard otherwise but I also havent had a chance to use them either.

Before I tried doing as crayon said, I tried redoing the test again from my laptop. This time it got me near same results as my ipod and desktop. Thank god, then to feel really depressed by looking at the global average which was around 9.x. At least it works now though. When it starts getting all weird again I'll follow the instructions provided here. Thank you.
If anyone stumbles upon this thread and has some spare time, can you please explain how wifi speed and internet speed are different and how they affect the computer in dummy terms? the internet is broad, I haven't found anything I can understand yet. I am a complete amateur at this after all, please treat me kindly.
Also(if this should be(or is already in) a separate thread, my apologies), has anyone been experiencing problems with thee atheros ar9285?

The wifi connection speed is the speed of your computers connection to your router/modem and, if you have one, the rest of your local area network.

Your internet speed is the connection of your router/modem to the internet and hence the rest of the internet world.

Basically that means that your router and your computer can transfer files to each other at 300Mbps but your internet connection can only DL at 2.5Mbs meaning that your actual download speeds from your internet will be limited by your internet connection from your ISP not your internal wifi network speeds (LAN)

But if you connected two computers up with the same wifi speed (both at 300Mbs) you would be able to transfer files much quicker than from your internet.

(300Mbs is the theoretical maximum, actual throughput may vary but for arguments sake lets just say it is that speed.)
