upper limit on wattage

is there any upper limit on the power supply. My local computer gurus say more the better. how much more? 1000W?

most computers I see come with 350W.

I am building a computer for some development work and entertainment (MCE2005). How much of a power do I really need without spending a lot on it?

I have read the PSU101 and I di understand the amperes factor. my question is specifically about power output.

thank you.

The most you can get on a consumer PSU is 950W Peak (itsthe last reccomended PSU in the 101). Do note that your computer will only draw as much power as it requires so overkill isnt always needed :)

Highest psu i've seen is about 700watts, if your looking to get a new one, i would go with one at least 450Watts (Mainly for a video card, ex. 6800Ultra). Although, if your not going to be doing much gaming on those computers, anything above 250Watts should be plenty.
