UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

I have a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 processor with 1.0gb of Ram. I used to have a 17" CRT Monitor, and recently purchased a 19" LCD one.

My question is, would that be the reason that my UPS doesn't work anymore? It's not that it lasts less time, but if the power goes out my PC shuts down like there isn't even a UPS hooked up to it.

I know Monitors have to be taken in to consideration, but wasn't sure if they were that affected.

Any ideas?

An LCD actually takes less power than a CRT. My guess would be that the battery of the UPS is not taking a charge any more.

If the UPS is over two years old, your battery is unable to hold a charge... even if you've never used it before as a backup. I bought a new UPS instead of replacing the battery in it because it was cheaper... and the battery isn't made any more!

Might be a dumb question, but you are connected to the battery backup outlets and not the straight though ones? If so, as others said, it's probably just an old battery.

That wasn't a dumb question at all. Thanks for the assistance though (I always check to make sure it's not just the surge protected side).

I too was wondering if a new battery would be more expensive than replacing it, so I bought a new one at CompUSA for $24.99 (after a $10.00 rebate).

Come to find out I looked up when I bought my last one and it was 08/2005, so it's a year and three months old. My new one...APC 350VA Battery Backup ES Series...has an indicator light for when the battery needs to be replaced (not sure if I will ever do that), and it has a connection to the PC through USB which will allow it to turn the computer off even if unattended.

All this stuff my last one didn't even have, so for $24.99...what the heck?

Thanks to everyone who replied in here though, I appreciate it.
