ups vs. surge protector

Hey, I'm looking to get a new surge protector for my system. The current one I have is a UPS 725. So it has a current output of 450 watts, 725va. I'm guessing that this will not due for my new setup as for the battery backup ability. I was wandering if it's worth getting a new one that will work for my system or if I should just go with a surge protector. One factoring bit is that my breaker currently goes off at times because the electrician put too small of a amp in for the number of rooms that is on it, and power has been cut a couple of times now. I am looking to get that fixed. If I go the UPS route how do I figure out how many watts I should look for?

The wattage will dictate output but the amount/size of the batteries will determine how long you'll be able to run your computer..

If you don't need the computer I recommend just getting a surge protector.. I have a very good Monster one that I have hooked up to my TV, Surround Sound, etc in my downstairs area..

On the other side of things, turn a room off if you can.. I don't know much about breakers and stuff but reducing the amount of items running in one room can also help.

The electrician hooked up the attic, which is my room and the living room downstairs. I keep what I can off when I'm up here that I'm not using, but my mother is usually downstairs. I don't need to run my computer when the power goes out, I just want to be able to shut it down in the event of an outage. I just want to make sure that my comp doesn't get damaged from the sudden shutdowns.
