Hi,
i have a problem , in that all my programs have been deleted from my desk top.the shadow off individual programs is still there but i can not access them .

this is the seen with the applications files.
i have checked my trash can and everything seems to be gone too.
none of the programs is on the hard drive either.

Is there somewhere online where i can download the software again or is there any way off retrieving from the computer itself.

Any advice much appreciated

You are clicking on aliases, and the aliases have been moved or deleted. Go to your programs folder and see if they are there. If not, try searching thru Sherlock

What version of Mac OS are you using?

If you open up your hard drive there should be a folder called 'Applications' and that is where most of them should live.
