Urgent Help Needed!!! Motherboard Help!

Hi,

I bought a motherboard complete with a p4 3.2 ghz ht processor on ebay, without any software cds. Its my first time installing a new motherboard. The motherboard works, but it won't start; as in it won't go to the log on screen, it just kept restarting.
I then configured a couple things from the bios settings, and now it won't even boot up-(nothing on screen). Its prolly because I swiched the boot order to have the hard disk boot up first then have the cd rom boot 2nd. (The default setting had it the other way around)
To fix my motherboard problems I'm assuming I need the drivers/software for the motherboard installed on my hard drive first, thats prolly why it never went to the log-on screen and just kept restarting in the first place.
The only info I can get from the motherboard is the following...

P4 Titan
VRM 10.0
AGP 8x
Gigabyte 8S648FXP-RZ

Phoenix BIOS
0686 BIOS
Phoenix 1998
246282516

Someone told me I have to re-install my operating system (Windows XP w/ SP2), then install the drivers, but I don't have the cd? Even if I had the cd, like I mentioned earlier the hard drive doesn't boot up(nothing on screen). OR do I just need to install the drivers found on gigbytes home page-if so do I have to install all of them, and what do ATA and SATA Raid drivers do?

Additional info:
I have all the necessary components.
They all work.
I'm just trying to replace my motherboard.
All components are intacted.

Thanks.

well first off reset your bios by moving the reset jumper on your motherboard to the reset position, sorry i don't have a picture but you should be able to find out how to do this in your motherboard book. Then turn it on and back off. Return the jumper to the previous position. Now you should be able to boot up far enough to get xp to start loading but then this is where you said it resets.

Unfortunately windows dislikes the fact that you've changed so much hardware. The only way i know of the correct this problem is to do either a full reinstall of windows or a repair install sometimes works as well. So it sounds like you'll have to try to obtain a copy of windows.

Hi,
will I get windows and the motherboard to start up again if I just download the drivers for my new motherboard onto my hard drive?

Thanks.

i had the same problem at one point when i ghosted a hard drive and put it in a new computer, i asked my technician friend how to keep windows from crashing and he replied "hmmm how to keep a gient virus from crashing"
the only thing i know that might fix it without loosing your information is a repair install

No, I meant if I installed the drivers on to my hard drive. I'm using my old motherboard right now to connect to the net. If I download the drivers for my new motherboard onto my hard drive, then hook up my new motherboard again, will it start running. i think the reason that my hd is not booting up is because the drivers for the new motherboard are not in my hd. So will this work.
Also how would I do a repair install?

Thanks.

obtain a win xp setup cd, then boot from it (make sure you are setup to boot from cd's in ur bios) then when it finally asks you how you want to insall windows it'll say something to the effect of do you want to install windows or press R for repair, just hit r and follow the instructions.

What if I get the drivers for my new motherboard onto my hd, then hook up that hd to my new motherboard. Will that work?
Wouldn't that be the reason why its not booting up, since the drivers for my new motherboard are not in the hd

Thanks.

unfortunately from that picture i can't see where it is (too grainey when zoomed in) but it should be 3 pins with a jumper on 2 of them (move the jumper to cover the pin that isn't covered, power on and then back off, then put it back the way it was)

in regards to putting the drivers for the motherboard on the hard drive, that would make no difference until you do the repair install so you can actually get into windows because as it is it will still crash because it doesn't know enough to do anything with them.

Does it have to be the original windows xp cd(the one that was used to install the current os) or can I just buy a new one? and what will happen to all my info./data on my hd if I repair from a new win xp cd

Thanks.

you can just buy a new one i think, your data should remain intact, but you may have to reinstall some of your programs

As windows pretty much hates new motherboards on old hdds, i suggest putting the hdd in the comp u have working, back up data u want, then obtain a windows xp cd, if the hdd is over 130gbs then ur gunna need Windows XP SP2, as for your question on Sata Raid, that is where you pretty much "join" 2 hdds together to make your computer appear as having only one hdd.
