Urgent Help With Kanotix OS

Heyy Guyz..I am a newbie..do not know much about computers and I am stuck with a big problem. I have Vaio and few days ago its windows got crashed and I was not able to open my laptop. Then, I got Kanotix OS CD. Though I managed to view the files but still I can't burn the CD or copy any documents.
As I start the CD ripping process, it gives a message to Load the empty disc and when I do that the system gets hanged up. So, I am not able to recover the Data.:( Please help me how to do the data recovery and burn the CD.
Looking forward for your great advice and help in recovering my Data.
 
it's not possible to burn while using live cd unless you have another cd/dvd rom device.
Since windows crash why not connect an external hard drive when using kanotix so that you can copy the file to the external/

speaking of crashing, what error code did you get ? we can help you resolve that !!
