i just bought an aspire 520 watt PS
+12v1 16A +12v2 18A

this was to upgrade from my current +12v12A POS PS which came stock with my compaq sr1550nx

i also purchased 2 gig of corsair value ram, heatsinks, and ati x850 pro agp card

so, i need to get this new PS installed

the problem is, the main big power wire for the motherboard 10 pins long, 2 wide

but the main power wire for the new power supply is 12 pins long... wtf?

can i splice the needed wires to the old power supply clip?

Ok wat you have is you are trying to use a 24 pin atx power connector on a 20 pin atx mobo socket :D

dont worry  , you should jus be able to connect it up without removing the extra pins, just as long as there is room at the ends of the socket of your mobo

like so:

a lot of the time you can detach the extra 4 pins and move them out of the way too. you've got nothing to worry about.
